A Midsummer Night's Dream
For a while in Humanities, we have been learning all about Shakespeare, specifically Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. We have been reading them, watching adaptations of them, and analyzing specific pieces of each. For the final project of this unit we all wrote our own essays and also we put on our own class production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
I think for the most part I connected with the fact that not only were we reading the plays, but we were also going back and analyzing bits and pieces to find a hidden meaning or purpose. Even though I connected with that I think I liked doing the Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream character comparison most because it allowed me to compare what specific roles characters played and each and how they affected the rest of the play.
I think the hardest part of this project was the play we put on. It was really hard to get all the supplies together, rehearse, and do everything necessary in the limited Humanities time we had every day. For me the final performance we did was really stressful and I had to persevere through it. I easily get nervous in front of people that I do not know and so it was really challenging however I am proud of how well I did.
I think that I learned that I don’t work as well on something for long periods of time; after months of learning Shakespeare and all the work we put into the play as well as our essays I got a little winded. I think in the future I would need to not spend so much time on something so that I don’t get so bored of it and therefore lose motivation.
I think that people still read and celebrate Shakespeare because it is one of the first literary works of art that still exists today but it still remains relevant. One wouldn’t expect such incredible works from that time. Even for our current time Shakespeare’s works would be considered masterpieces and that’s why they are still here today.
